Miniatures of Gioachino Greco – part I.


This is the first article in new category – Tactics in Chess Openings. We begin with the old games which were often decided very early in the opening. Opening theory was not developed, the art of defense was even less known and the tactical, attacking play was the most valued.

The games of Gioacchino Greco, well-known Italian player from the first half of the seventeenth century, are topic of our first series on Tactics in Chess Miniatures.

His games are instructive for beginner players since we can find blatant examples of was it going on when one party does not follow basic principles of chess.
